LEGISLATOR SINKS 12 BOREHOLES AT IMEKO - POLITICS - RMWO

 As part of efforts at combating water borne diseases and ensuring that people have access to portable water, the Legislator representing Imeko/Afon State Constituency, Hon. Jemili Akingbade, has sunk 12 motorised boreholes and repaired three existing ones. Hon. Akingbade, who is also the Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly revealed this at the thanksgiving service and reception held in his honour at Owode -Afon in Imeko/Afon Local Government Area of the State. He explained that the sinking of the boreholes was a way of giving back to the communities and provision of clean water would prevent water borne diseases, as well as infections, appreciating the people of his constituency for their support and prayers. Theophilus Owolabi Shobowale Benson, famously known as T.O.S. Benson, was a prominent lawyer and politician in the period leading up to Nigerian independence in 1960. He was a key member of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC). In 1960, when Nigeria gained independence, he was appointed as the Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Culture. The popular socialite was imprisoned for several months after the first military coup of  15 January 1966. He was released on 2 August of the same year. Benson, a native of Ikorodu, Lagos state, later became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He also held the title of Baba Oba of Lagos. His younger brother was the late popular musician Bobby Benson. Senate Grills Fashola, Others As Ministerial Screening Resumes - Politics - RMWO

The Senate has resumed ministerial screening with the former minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, the first to appear before it on Monday. Fashola took the podium at 10:41 am after being introduced by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Igbere TV reports. No less than 31 nominees have been screened so far by the Senate since it received the 43-man list from President Muhammadu Buhari last Tuesday. Nine of the remaining 12 nominees will be screened by the upper legislative chamber on Monday, while the remaining three will take their turn on Tuesday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday said it is not calling any witness in defence of the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar. Its lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN) announced this at the resumption of proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC). By the court’s schedule, INEC was expected to open its defence today, but when the case was called, Usman said they have scrutinized the evidence by witnesses called by the petitioners and found that there was no need for it.

22 Kano Corpers To Repeat Service Year – Coordinator - NYSC - RMWO

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Kano, Alhaji Ladan Baba says no fewer than 22 out of the 2018 Batch B Stream ll Corps members that served in the state are to repeat their service year. Baba made this known in an interview on Thursday in Kano. He said the corps members were either found guilty of absconding from their places of primary assignment, PPA for at least three consecutive months or beyond aside other serious offences. “A total of 1,718, of the 2018 Batch B, Stream 2 corps members passed out from Kano today in a low key winding up passing out organised in the four zonal offices in Wudil, Bichi, Kura and at the NYSC Secretariat in the city,” he said. According to him, 18 out of the batch were to serve extension of service for between three weeks to four months, while few of them have been shortlisted for honours Award and commendation. Sowore’s AAC declares protests across Nigeria August 5 The African Action Congress (AAC) has declared August 5, 2019, the commencement date of revolution protests tagged ‘Days of Rage’ across the country to demand for a better Nigeria.
